Wiretapping

From Democracy Now!

Justice Dept Invokes State Secrets in Wiretapping Case
The Obama administration has invoked the controversial “state secrets” privilege in a legal case challenging the government’s warrantless wiretapping program. The Justice Department is arguing that national security would be at risk if the case proceeded. In a statement, Attorney General Eric Holder said, “there is no way for this case to move forward without jeopardizing ongoing intelligence activities that we rely upon to protect the safety of the American people.”

In other words, the "state secrets" privilege basically allows the government to do whatever they want, whenever they want, without any threat of legal punishment. The wiretapping is known to be warrantless, which means they don't need to have a reason to do it, and any investigation of the program jeopardizes the program, so we can't investigate it.

Our government can not be controlled by the law, and both of our major political parties support the program and the use of the "state secrets" privilege, so we don't even have recourse at the ballot box. All I want is to be able to talk on the phone without feeling like everything I say is being run through an algorithm that searches for key phrases. Now I know why television shows and commercials promote texting so much. It's easier to parse.

I would say we need a strong third party to develop that actually gives a damn about the liberties of the citizens, but I just don't see how they can break through the corporate shield that has formed around the political process. Honestly, Fox won't even pay attention to Ron Paul, and he's the one viable youth movement in the Republican party. What are we supposed to do?

  1. Fear not, Sieyes, we stand upon the shores of a hopeful future.

Have you ever seen Neon Genesis Evangelion? That forcefield which surrounds the establishment is being and will continue to be eroded by the AT-field of our collective intelligence, which is the force of conscious evolution taking control of the situation. Imo, that is synonymous with saying, "God is pissed, and you are not going to get away without being punished."

Of course, that is simply encouraging circumstance, not a strategy.

Ron Paul is no longer ignored by Fox News.

It's a beautiful thing to see Ron Paul talking about the dollar crisis with that FOX symbol levitating down in the corner, isn't it? The fact is, truth cannot be ignored. It's impossible.

What the establishment is trying to do right now is like someone going around inviting you to come jump off a cliff, because they have a Cure for Gravity. People know something is Wrong.

What do we do? We're all going to be poor, and pretty soon. Contact local farmers - start buying their products. What would you have to offer a farmer in the case that your dollars are worth nothing? Moriarty has brought up numerous good points about practical anarchic methods, processes which will simply be required knowledge for anyone who wants to survive what's coming.

Network with people who you can rely on, and provide for, in a time of need. Getting in touch with your spiritual side, I'd also suggest.

Have hope. It's the least we can do.

  2. While the Freedom Watch segments with Ron Paul are a hopeful step, and something I was aware of when posting, when I refer to Fox News I generally mean the evening programming (Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity) and while some of them are beginning to give him fairer treatment, NONE of them understand or accept his non-interventionist policies and will not support him as a candidate due to it. This blog is a decent look at what I'm talking about from the Republican primaries

and you can find plenty of examples of Hannity bashing him on youtube.

I recognize he is not totally ignored, but his recognition still just feels so token, like they know they need to acknowledge and treat him respectfully due to his growing popularity, but Fox will never support him over Huckabee, Romney, Gingrich, or even Palin, and until they do I doubt he stands a chance in a primary sadly. Also, the way he is presented is generally more as an economic expert than a presidential possibility. Maybe eventually his popularity will be such that they are forced to acknowledge and respect him as a true political possibility.

  3. Who gives a damn what Sean Hannity says? Sure, lots of old people listen to and sympathize with him and similar FOX commentators - but it's not like what they say wins elections. If that were true, Obama wouldn't be president right now.

Here he is on a FOX business segment, too(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHPSmslIOfc).

You have to realize how much things have changed since the primaries. Our generation turned the tables of this past election, because Obama was all over the internet. Ron Paul has essentially replaced ALL of that hype on the internet - there is NO other politician that is nearly as popular on the internet right now. His popularity is bleeding into prime-time TV as well.

I can't find any examples of Hannity bashing Ron Paul since 2007, either, and as I said, the tables have turned DRAMATICALLY since that time.

This is not token popularity - this is the truth coming out, and Ron Paul is a personal manifestation of it.

I mean, watch this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvlUx5ECD2w. You can show that to nearly anyone, and they will say, "Wow." He has a seriously good chance in the 2012 elections, provided he lives that long.
